About Me

I’m Sam Parker, a BACP-registered counsellor - based in Didsbury, Manchester - specialising in person-centred counselling for adults and young people.

I became a counsellor because I genuinely care about people knowing they’re not alone.

I support clients facing a wide range of issues, including:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Eating distress and eating disorders

  • Suicidal ideation

  • Self-harm

  • Behavioural and substance based addictions

  • Bereavement and grief

  • Chronic and physical health challenges

  • Life-limiting illness

  • Neurodiversity and related experiences

  • Issues relating to faith or religion

I have over eight years of professional experience working with wellbeing, mental health and addiction. Primarily I have worked with individuals, and have been responsible for managing and training staff who do the same. During this time I have worked with individuals aged from 11 to 75+ on all of the issues listed above and more. This has included working in Alternative Provision and Education, an NHS Bereavement Service and with multiple local and national charities.

Before this career I studied Theatre at University to a Masters level. I love being creative, and creativity remains a big part of how I think and connect. I know how to be sincere, but I also like to share in my client's humour, connecting this way helps me to understand more about who you are. I will always honour the depth of what you bring and I like to build a relationship with clients where you feel comfortable to do so.

I offer a counselling approach that is non-judgmental, stigma-free, and centred around you. My priority is to create a warm, compassionate, and safe space where you can explore whatever is on your mind. You set the pace, and together we’ll explore what matters most to you.

What is Person-Centred Counselling?

Person-Centred Counselling is a humanistic approach that focuses on the individual’s unique experiences and capacity for personal growth. Developed by Carl Rogers in the 1950s, this therapy is based on the belief that people have an innate ability to overcome challenges and reach their full potential when given the right support.

How I Work

I use a person-centred and trauma informed approach, which means you are always at the heart of our work together. I’ll sit with you, listen and accept you where you are. I will help you to make sense of your experiences and connect with your feelings and sense of self.

No matter what the difficulty is that you are facing, when working with me you will be considered an individual. Only you fully know your experiences and how they have impacted you. I will ensure throughout our time together that this is at the foundation of the work we do.

I offer online and face to face sessions. Face to face sessions happen at my office in Didsbury, Manchester. This office is easily accessible by bus, train, and tram. If you are driving there is free parking at the rear of the building.

Your Safety

I am a registered member of BACP - The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy - and subscribe to their Ethical Framework. I will ensure throughout our work that I uphold these moral and ethical standards.

I have an enhanced DBS certificate that is up to date and available to see upon request. This certificate clears me to work with vulnerable adults and young people.

What Next?

Before booking, why not get in touch for a free, no obligation 20-minute phone or video call?

This gives us both a chance to see whether working together feels like the right fit. If it doesn’t, that’s completely okay - the most important thing is that you find the right counsellor for you.
